HMX Courses
Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Pharmacology, Physiology
A physician who has studied and worked around the world, Ignacio Valverde Meyer is a strong believer in continually learning new things and understanding new approaches to familiar topics. He took HMX Fundamentals courses to refresh his knowledge for his clinical practice and planned projects.
What was the main reason you wanted to take HMX courses?
I finished medical school in 2017 and then I went to Africa. I worked there as an internist for almost a year and then I went to the United States. And I just like to learn a little bit of everything, and for me, the fundamentals are very important; I believe that going through again and again the basics of medicine is a good idea, because you always are forgetting things and it’s good to remember them, for theoretical reasons.
How helpful were the courses in enhancing your knowledge?
The courses are really good, because they [cover] basics and they are really well-explained. The teachers are very good – sometimes things that you thought you didn’t understand quite correctly when you studied them in college, now I seem to have a little bit more understanding so it’s a little bit easier. It has helped me to organize my mind.
What did you find useful about the approach?/h4>
I had some basis for the different courses, [because] we had them in college. But the approach I think was very good…the objectives were fully accomplished and it was very practical, very easy to understand. Also, the parts when they interview different kinds of doctors, I found that really, really nice.
What are your goals for applying your knowledge in the future?
My purpose, I think, in life, is to be of service. I believe strongly [that] when you have something to give you have to give it back, so if you have the opportunity to learn, you should give it back to society or people who may need it…I want to be somehow a connector between people who are, for example, in developing countries, connecting with the right people, giving resources and medical help. I work a little bit more every day, and I speak with different people and am continually learning.
