HMX Courses
Genetic Testing and Sequencing Technologies, Immuno-oncology
After earning her master’s degree in cancer pharmacology from the University of Bradford in England, Juman Al Meniawi decided to pursue a PhD. When COVID-19 forced her to delay those plans, she took HMX Pro online courses to sharpen her knowledge as she prepared for the next step in her career.
Did you find the courses to be appropriately challenging?
I had a rudimentary understanding of genetic sequencing, so the course presented new depths about the subject for me. Whereas the immuno-oncology course was familiar due to my field of study, but I thoroughly enjoyed the information delivery throughout the course. The information was easy to absorb, and I think it could even be understood by someone interested in the field with no medical background.
I liked a particular feature in the immuno-oncology course called Background Builder which helps learners brush up on concepts required to understand the material at hand.
What did you find most useful about the courses?
The immuno-oncology course further deepened my understanding of immunotherapy, which was covered briefly during my graduate studies. I found the course enjoyable and the information to be insightful.
As for the genetic sequencing course, I particularly liked the clinical linkage section of every module, which delved into real-life applications and cases about the material given. This helped better contextualize the theoretical concepts I learned through benefits delivered to patients.
How do you think the courses will help you in pursuing a PhD and in your career?
After successfully completing these courses, I realized that immunology is a promising PhD option for me, as I enjoyed the material, and the course gave me enough substance to be able to talk with potential supervisors about it.
In addition, I believe that these fields are always evolving and changing, and being able to tap into the latest discoveries, concepts, and applications provides me with better insights as well as keeps me well-informed about subjects of interest.
Would you recommend HMX courses to others?
I don’t recommend online courses often. However, these courses’ curriculum structure and assessments were very engaging and so well-delivered that I already recommended them to friends and one of them already applied.
