What appealed to you most about HMX courses?
What drew my attention the most was the fact that the immunology course was organized by two of the most known immunology authors, Dr. [Shiv] Pillai and Dr. [Andrew] Lichtman. I immediately thought that getting knowledge from these two experts would be outstanding and would certainly improve my understanding of immunology and put me in a special position, compared to other people without this opportunity. Besides, the high-quality animations in the videos and the course schedule and its organization were also appealing factors.
What was your experience in the courses?
I had a challenging experience with HMX courses because I took two courses at the same time and it was a little bit hard to manage them simultaneously. I think what aggravated my situation was the fact that I had these HMX courses plus many PhD activities to do, plus lectures to medicine students to prepare, since I was an immunology teacher for medicine students from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). But at the end everything went well, fortunately. One thing that was really a blessing was the fact that everything I was learning from HMX Immunology helped me during my lectures to medicine students. The course came at the right time! The way the lessons are divided is really helpful because you learn a little bit each day and do not get so tired.
What did you find most useful or enjoyable?
The videos with extremely high-quality animations or high-quality pictures/schemes in the lessons, the explanations given by the teachers, and the quizzes, which helped me to get a stronger knowledge of the studied subjects.
What would you tell others about HMX courses? Who would you recommend them for?
Well, I can say that HMX courses are high-quality courses that can help you to build a solid background in the studied subject and, therefore, reach a privileged position more easily. The courses are organized by known worldwide experts in the studied fields, organized in appropriate schedules, the lessons are easily understandable and hard concepts are made easy by the teachers. I recommend HMX courses for all who have a good command of English, want to learn from experts, and want to take their career to the next level.
Have you had any opportunities to apply what you’ve learned?
I have applied the immunology knowledge during my lectures to medicine students. Besides, as I work with an animal model of autoimmune disease (experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis), all the learned concepts in immunology helped me to get a deeper understanding of this model and, consequently, helped me in my studies as PhD student.
Regarding pharmacology, as I work testing the effects of certain drugs in the aforementioned animal model, pharmacology concepts helped me to have a broader view of drugs and how they work in a living system.
